Week of June 27: Rosalie Murphy

SP BIO - Rosalie Murphy 2

Rosalie Murphy is a newspaper reporter at The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Calif. She grew up in Akron and will be visiting her family this week. Her parents live in Tallmadge, and her brother lives in Cuyahoga Falls. Since she’s visiting Akron, she’ll have a lot of time to explore during her takeover.

Rosalie says she grew up in a quintessential Akron family. Her parents and their siblings are graduates of The University of Akron; her grandparents loved EJ Thomas and the Aeros; and she danced in The Nutcracker every winter at the Civic.

In 2010, Rosalie moved away for college. She says, “I can verify that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I boast about Akron all over California.” When she comes home each year, she visits old favorites, like Musica, Revival, Gorge Metro Park and Luigi’s, and even pops into new places.

Rosalie’s favorite thing about Akron is all-you-can-eat spaghetti on Thursdays at the Italian Center — the old Italian club in North Hill. She explains that her grandpa goes every week. “I went to elementary school with most of the people who volunteer as waiters. My cousins go pretty much every week in a party of at least 10.”

Rosalie hopes to return to Akron one day. For now, follow Summit Peeks on Twitter this week to show her some hometown love while she visits the Rubber City.
